Studying Medicine is the best decision I have ever made in my life; I have learned the importance of saving someone’s life.
It was on a Saturday of the summer time, as we were on vacations, some of the
members of my family decided to go to the countryside to spend some quality time together.
The people present at that family activity were my dad, my older brother, my mother, and I. It took us three hours to travel from the city to that beautiful place. I was excited on the way there as we were listening to beautiful music while I was enjoying the nature. The weather was great; it was a sunny day with the temperature of 25 degrees Celsius.
After we got to the place, we decided to go to the beach to explore the natural beauty of that place. It was a perfect brilliant summer day. The sun was shining, the breeze was blowing softly, the birds were singing a soft and sweet melody that touched the depth of my heart and soul, and the waves were moving slowly until they got to the seashore. There were different colors of flowers all around such as red, yellow, and pink. I took the time to smell them, and they smelled like vanilla. Suddenly, my older brother entered the water; he swam far away from us at a distance of 100 meters with his surfing board. After a while, he could not swim anymore. Then his body sank into the water and we could not see him.
In fact, I got into the water and rescued him. As I brought him back to the seashore, He was not breathing and was unconscious. There wasn’t any hospital close or any doctor to help him out. However, I made the decision to do him a cardiopulmonary resuscitation to restore his blood circulation and breathing. I gave him 2 breaths and I used my hands to push down many times in the center of his chest. Finally, he could breathe after a few minutes of ongoing attempt. That was a great moment of joy turned into an instant of stress and fear of losing a loved one. Everyone thanked me for what I had done and I had felt so excited to be able to save my older brother’s life.
Later, my father asked me, “What would you like to study in the future when you grow up?” I answered, “Medicine”.
At that moment, I came to understand the importance of beinga doctor, the joy that a doctor experiences by saving the lives of his patients. Then my dad gave me the best advice I have ever heard in my life if I want to become a
successful doctor, saying, “Son, If you want to become a successful doctor, you need to be a man of principle, discipline, and value.”
Today, people call me a doctor, I appreciate this great title. It describes my value, my accomplishments and the man
I become. But it was not easy to get where I am today. As a young man, I struggled a lot for that career; I had to work hard to survive and studied at the same time to have a better future. Sometimes I was isolated, devastated, but overall I was in love with my career and the future I had ahead.
My pain didn’t break me because I’m unbreakable, it didn’t stop me because I’m unstoppable, but it skilled and transformed me in who I become today. Failure is mainly caused by the inability to know who we really are and what we want in life. My decisions to study Medicine and my father’s words have been my motivations and they have made all the difference in my life.I am not just my title; I’m just trying to be helpful to humanity. Two things that really define great professionals: their determination and their positive attitude to serve humanity.
The decision I have made and my father’s advice have changed my life completely. I learned that to fully enjoy my life, I have to help other people to live a healthy life so they can enjoy the most beautiful moments with their loved ones.
